Avatar: The Last Airbender: Book 1: Water Review This series takes place a century later, after the avatar Aang a 12-year-old monk is found frozen in an iceberg by Katara and her brother Sokka. Benders were known as a prestigious role in Aang’s society, their world divided into 4 countries consists of the water country, fire country, earth country, and the Air temples. Benders were martial artists who can control either one of the four elements: water, fire, earth, or wind. The avatar (Aang) had the ability to control all four elements at the cost of his time and patience. After being discovered by Katara (a water bender) and her brother Sokka (an experienced fighter) they set out on a journey for Aang to master all four elements. Aang discovers the Fire Country has completely wiped out the Northern and Southern air temples, he also finds out a war has been waged by the fire country throughout the continent. Aang’s fury sets the group: Aang, Sokka, Katara, and Appa (flying bisen) to a mission to stop the fire country while learning to master each element on their way. Aang develops a constant rivalry and hatred for prince Zuko, a banished prince from the Fire country set on a quest to capture the avatar and redeem his former reputation and status. Aang must master all four elements before the next Sozin comet hits, this comet will boost a firebenders power and not even the avatar will be able to stop the fire country. |
